Very ‘Meaty’ Homemade Black Bean Burgers

Very ‘Meaty’ Homemade Black Bean Burgers

Juicy, ‘meaty’ black bean burger recipe. Best black bean burger packed with flavor, texture and loaded with veggies. The perfect all vegan burger.

The Best Black Bean Burger Recipe

By now you know I love burgers so I won’t be labour the point. What I will say about these homemade black bean burgers is that I worked hard to make sure the flavor was on point for you. But something special happened in the process. The texture came out just right too. Which is what I love most about these burgers and I hope you do as well. So, let’s get them cooking and on your table.

Gather Your Ingredients

For this recipe you’ll need the following:

  • 1 Can of Black Beans
  • 1 tsp Cumin
  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1/2 Chopped Onion
  • 1/2 cup All-Purpose Flour
  • 1/2 cup Panko Bread Crumbs
  • 1/2 Chopped Red Bell Pepper
  • The “Fixings”:

Sauté Your Vegetables

Now you’ll want to prepare your vegetables. This is a great way to get the flavor and texture you want in these burgers. Instead of just mixing all the ingredients in a bowl and then cooking. Sautéing the veggies with the spices first allows your flavors time to mix together and get to know each other. And that’s what we want. The more the spices and flavors meet and get to know each other the better our homemade black bean burgers will taste. Which is perfect, because we are all about the flavor.

Mix & Form Your Black Bean Burger Patty

Now it’s time to add the remaining ingredients including the flour, breadcrumbs, and mashed black beans to a medium mixing bowl.

Mix well before forming this mixture into individual black bean burger patties. Because I prefer my burger patties thick, this recipe yielded 3 patties for me. However, if you decide to make your patties a bit thinner then you’ll likely be able to get about 4 burger patties from this homemade black bean burger recipe – #WINNING.

Cook & Assemble Your Burger

Now that your black bean burger patty has been formed it’s time to cook your burger. I cooked my burger using a cast iron skillet, over medium heat for about 5-7 minutes on each side. I do prefer my vegan burger patties a bit crispy so keep that in mind when deciding how long to cook your burger patties.

I would recommend definitely no shorter than 5 minutes and no longer than 10 minutes on each side over medium heat. Once your patties have been fully cooked, assemble them with all the fixings. Here’s what went on my burger!
