kcalTastes just like a Greek lamb gyro but vegan! Flavor packed and tender.
Ingredients
- Seitan
1 cup vital wheat gluten
1/4 cup chickpea flour
1 cup water
6 cups Not Beef Broth
- Gyro Sauce
1 tsp oregano
1 tsp thyme
1 tsp cumin
1 tsp all spice
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp black pepper
1 tbsp onion powder
2 cloves garlic
2 tbsp olive oil
2 tbsp Tahini
2 tbsp lemon juice
2 tbsp soy sauce
3/4 cup Not Beef Broth
- Serving Suggestions
1/4 cup vegan tzatziki sauce (see notes)
pita bread
tomato
cucumber
red onion
lettuce
fresh dill or parsley
Preparation
- Prepare your seitan.
- Mix all the ingredients for gyros sauce together and set aside. After seitan has cooled thinly slice into “gyro-like” pieces.
- Add gyro slices to skillet with one more tablespoon of oil. Then add gyro sauce to pan and allow content to simmer for about 10 – 15 minutes, Flipping gyros over once. Let cool for 5 minutes.
- While gyros simmer, warm pita bread.
- Then being to build your gyro. Topping it with gyro “meat”. tomato, cucumber, red onion, lettuce and leafy greens.

- Vegan Tzatziki: 2 1/2 Tbsp Chosen Mayo, 1 tsp olive oil, 1 tsp minced garlic, 1 tsp lemon juice, 1 tsp apple cider vinegar, 2 tsp dried dill, 1/4 tsp black pepper, pinch salt, 1/4 cucumber
