Gordon Ramsey’s Vegan Breakfast Bacon… Candied

What’s the perfect vegan breakfast option?! Gordon Ramsey’s vegan bacon of course.. but make it candied.

If you’re a new vegan what has been the hardest thing to give up? Giving up meat when going vegan seems to be a common pain point. Trust me I get it. Growing up in Texas, BBQ has always been a love of mine. But now I’ve happily been able to replace these former favorites with vegan breakfast options like this bacon recipe from Gordon Ramsey. But this isn’t the typical recipe. I’ve added a New Orleans twist and candied it. Let’s start cooking!

First you’ll want to preheat the over to 375* F. Making this vegan bacon in the oven is what will give you crispy bacon. If you have leftovers you can always reheat in the oven or the air fryer.

Then take a sheet of parchment paper, cover a non stick pan and oil the parchment paper of the pan. Set aside until it’s time to use again.
Next, using a large mixing bowl or shallow baking dish, mix together the following

  • 2 Tbsp nutritional yeast
  • 1 Tbsp garlic powder
  • 2 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp liquid smoke
  • 2 Tbsp coconut oil
  • 1 Tbsp mushroom seasoning
  • 3 Tbsp soy sauce
  • Water

Whisk until well combined.

In a separate bowl add the crumbled tofu, 1 Tbsp nutritional yeast and 3 Tbsp marinade. Toss and then set aside.

Now take one sheet of rice paper and dip into the marinade. Ensuring that you fully submerge and coat the rice paper with the marinade. Then take the coated rice paper place on a clean piece of parchment paper. Sprinkle half of the tofu crumbles onto the rice paper. Repeat the process for a second sheet of rice paper. Then place on top of crumbled tofu. Allow to rest for 2 – 3 minutes.

Next, in a small mixing bowl stir together the coconut sugar and crushed pecans. Sprinkle this mixture on top of the rice paper. Then, using a pizza cutter, gently cut the rice paper into strips. Once the strips have been cut, take each strip and add to the greased parchment paper. Bake in the oven for 15 – 20 minutes, making sure to watch closely and flip over halfway.

Once done baking, remove vegan bacon from the oven and place on a cooling rack. Allow to cool for 5 – 7 minutes and then enjoy!
